Barnes Foundation – Fidèle the Dog

Philadelphia, PA
An illustrated character of Fidèle

Dr. Albert C. Barnes had a beloved dog named Fidèle de Port Manec'h (Fidèle for short), a Brittany spaniel mix he adopted in France. Fidèle was a constant companion, even living with Barnes at his estate, Ker-Feal, which was named in the dog's honor. Fidèle even became a somewhat infamous figure, as Barnes would sometimes have Fidèle "sign" rejection letters to those seeking access to the Barnes Foundation's art collection.
